How do you pick your perfect location?

where to?

Choosing a location for your shoot is not necessarily a make or break decision but it will have an impact on your overall images. One of the most important reasons for choosing the perfect location is to match the general vibe, theme, or concept you are trying to achieve.

A great location will be free from any distraction or clutter that will take the focus away from you or your family. This is true for both indoor and outdoor locations. If you have already chosen an outfit for your photos, you will want to find a location that will compliment that choice. If you are wearing a lot of green, you probably wouldn't want to be in a grassy field or forest. If you have not chosen outfits, keep both the potential outfit and location in mind when deciding.

Does a certain location come to mind when you think of your family? Or think of your significant other? I absolutely love to photography someone in a location that means something to them. Maybe your spot is the family farm, your own home, a coffee shop, or a public park. You can't go wrong when choosing a space that is simply you.

When choosing a location for couple photography, I always tell my couples the same thing: think of it as a date night! What do the two of you like to do together? Are you city people or do you prefer a more natural environment? I've taken pictures in all kinds of different spaces, from a couple's favorite restaurant to their favorite past time (hello mini golf!).
